Report for 2017-18

EDUCATION :
With Great pleasure, I present to you, the Annual report of SGMA English Medium School run our association for the academic year 2017- 18.

Shree Gujarati Nursery School
Our Kindergarten section, with the well planned curriculum and innovative playway method, in partnership with Hippo campus consisted of a total number of 80 children during the year 2017 -18.

Shree Gujarati Higher Primary English Medium School
Shree Gujarati Higher Primary English Medium School has classes from Std I to Std VII. Total number of children in higher primary section during 2017-2018 were 294.

Shree J.D.Kotecha Gujarati English Medium High School
The strength of our High School during the year 2017-2018 was 117.The total strength of the school was 491.

Staff:
We have an excellent faculty comprising of 17 well trained, well experienced, dedicated teaching staff and 8 supporting staff including clerical and sub-staffs. Apart from the various core subject teachers, we have an enthusiastic team of teachers for yoga, music, communication and drawing.

Academic achievement:
Academic session 2017-18 witnessed an excellent performance of the students in the State Board Exams securing 97.5% success and at present it is 100% .The top scorer Fathimathul Inshiyana scored 92.5.% Among the rest 5 passed in A grade,8 passed in B+ grade ,11 students secured B grade ,11 passed in C+ and 4 passed with C grade.

Student Enrichment Program:
To ensure that our students are equipped to face any challenge, we have focused on few Student Enrichment programs as follows:

The students of MSW from Roshni Nilaya, College of Social work take up classes for the Std III and IV once a week to create better social awareness among students.

High School students are enriched with knowledge on Adolescence Skills through SFA Classes conducted honorary resource person Mrs. Leena Karia and Mrs. Ashwini shenoy once in a week.

Challenges of Adolescence seminar was organised for IX and X boys and girls Mr. Yogesh Co-ordinator, for child helpline and Mrs. Anuradha Shetty, Lecturer from M.S.W,Roshani Nilaya ,respectivallyon 19-9-17.

Career guidance:
“Career Guidance” Program was organised for IX and X Std students Mr. Shivananda Nayak -Founder & Management Trusteee at AWAKE Foundation from Bangalore. Program was conducted on 18-09-2017 at Shree Gujarathi English Medium School. Mr. Shivananda Nayak addressing the students gave information about the wide opportunities available in the present scenario.

The resource person from Hindu Mr. Vishal conducted one day workshop for high school students on ‘How to learn from newspaper and Excel’

Students are given opportunity to exhibit their talents on their class bulletin board conducting weekly competition. Various clubs like English, Maths, eco child right club gives them opportunity to explore the unique talent of the students.

Along with the regular health check up for all the students the doctors of District health officers Dental check up and Treatment was organized on 4th and 5th of January 2018 the doctors of Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences.

Extra –curricular Activities:
The last Saturday of every month various competitions are conducted classwise to explore the unlimited potential of every child .Winners are then trained to participate in the interschool competitions.

Our achievements in the interschool competitions were as follows
Prathiba karanji Competition– Our students bagged the following prizes in the cluster level.
In the Lower primary section, Master Samarth from Std IV won the first places in Fancy dress.
In the Higher primary level, Miss.Amulya, Miss. Inchara and Master Afnan secured second places in Light music, Fancy dress and Arabic recitation. Master Ayush and Miss Sufiya won the second place in clay modeling and Arabic recitation.
Higher primary girls also won the Third place in cluster level folk dance.
High school section Miss Shruthi and Master Suraj of won the Second place in Marathi speech and Fancy dress.
Interschool-Apart from this Kumari Amulya of Std V won second place in Bhakthi Geethe and Second place in Patriotic song organized Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava samithi.

Sports:
Kabaddi
Our Higher primary girls won the First place in the cluster level Kabaddi
Miss.Pooja and Miss.Sangeetha were selected as the Best defender and Best All-rounder respectively .
Boys won the second place in the cluster level.

Athletics-In the cluster level sports meet organized the department our students bagged the following prizes.
Miss. Kashish of VII Std and Miss.Pooja of VI Std won the first and second place in shot-put, Master. Ashwin of X Std won the second place in shotput.

Kindergarten section
Under the innovative playway method of Hippocampus following activities were organized

Kids were introduced to different colour concepts decorating classes with marked colour, using balloons and ribbons students were also asked bring things of the same colour.
Special days like Fathers day and Grandparents day was celebrated to stronger the bonding between kids, teachers and parents. Religious festivals like Makara Sankranthi, Diwali ,Raksha Randhan and Christmas were celebrated highlighting the value of each festival. Kids came in the attire of different national leaders on Independence Day and learnt about National Flag and symbols preparing them with the help of the teachers on Republic day.
Bhashothsava was celebrated on February 17th 2018 to promote the knowledge of different languages among students. Kids spoke, sang and told stories in their mother tongue along with their parents.
Kiddie’s Day was organized on 3rd February 2018 wherein kids presented an array of cultural programmmes. Chief guest Mrs Anjana Kamath, Director Hakuna Matata club honoured the prize winners. President Mr Hithendra Kothari presided over the programme.
Graduation day – Tiny tot’s of Senior Hoo were honored with the graduation certificate the chief guest Mr. Hithendra Kothari. Mr Rajan Baldev, Mr Pankaj Vasani, Mrs Avani and Mrs Shoba Pai were present of the occasion.
Prince and Princess Contest was conducted on 3rd February 2018 for the kids of the age group 2½ to 5 years. Mrs Sanjana Kamath and Mrs Supriya director Sai Nursery were invited to select the best among the 40 to 50 participants from the neighbourhood.
Lower Primary Section
Observed no bag day on Saturday’s and used it to create awareness among the students for different themes like
Health and Hygiene through Environment day and Global hand wash day.
Family Bonding through Father’s day and Grandparents day
Tradition and culture through religious festivals.
Patriotism through national festivals.
Apart from this all students witnessed the following school calendar events
On 5-6-2017 World Environment Day was celebrated the Eco Club members presenting a program on Swachh Bharath. A road show was also presented the members in the railway station under the guidance of the members of Anti Pollution Drive.
On 12-06-2017 World Day against child labor was marked child right club taking an oath to fight against child labour.

On 31-10-2017 Rastriya Ekatha Diwas was celebrated to pay the tribute to Sardar Vallabhai Patel who was instrumental in keeping India united. Students of Std 8th presented a dance dram on the occasion.

26-11-2017 Constitution Day was observed the members of child right club conducting a quiz on Indian constitution.

30-1-2018 Martyr’s Day was marked to pay homage to the freedom fighter’s presenting a skit and song students of 9th. Apart from this students of 7th, 8th, 9th were enrolled in “Swacha Graha Swacha Manassu” programme Rama Krishna mission and participated in the road show, walkathon, essay, debate competition and cleanliness of the school surrounding all through the year.

School Parliament Elections and Club Inauguration: School witnessed election for the school Parliament and House group captains with a touch of authentic election process through E-Voting. Master Ashwin and Miss Inshiyaan were elected as the school pupil leader and Asst. School pupil leader. The School Cabinet was installed the local corporator Mr. Rajendra Kumar.

Celebration Time:
Vanamahotsava – Students of Std 8th and 2nd took initiative in celebrating Vanamahotsava in the month of June. Chief Guest Mrs. Sharmila member of education committee planted sapling along with the students to mark the occasion.
Independence day – our national flag was hoisted Mr. Hitendra Kothari President of SGMA, Students of Std. 6th and Std 3rd presented a dance drama on struggle for freedom.
Teachers Day -On this occasion all the teachers of the school and the prize winners of the sports conducted on account of teachers day, were honored the PTA members, Students of Std X and Std I presented a cultural program on “Great teachers of India” Best part of the program was dance and skit performed the members of PTA which was much appreciated all the teachers.
Gandhi Jayanthi day students along with teachers sang bhajans including Ghandiji’s favourite one Ragu Pathi Raghava. Therafter students cleaned the whole school on account of swatch Bharath Abiyan.

Kannada Rajyotsava: Our students presented a wonderful show in the district Rajyotsava Programme conducted in Nehru Maidan which was much appreciated the public.
Children’s Day was celebrated in its true essence providing a wholesome entertainment to students through Fancy dress competition and teacher’s entertainment programme.
Republic Day our national flag was hoisted our President Mr Hithendra Kothari. Students of 4th and 9th Std presented the cultural programme.
Annual Sports Day was held on 30-12-2017 was presided over Mr Hithendra Kothari. Chief guest Mr Adithya Mahale basketball coach honoured the winner of various events. Academic advisor Mrs. Kavitha Shastry, Chairman Mr. Rajan Baldev, members of the management and members of the education committee were present on the occasion.
Apart from this MakaraSankranthi was celebrated in association with APD foundation in a unique way with the theme “LIVE AND LET LIVE” Motherearth,Plant and Animal kingdom and common man is asking us to live and let others live. Mr. Kalpesh member of the education committee presided over the programme. Chief guest Mrs. Prathiba Kulai, Mr Jayaprakash – KSPB, Mr Santosh Nair AWHCPL, Mr Naveen Dsouza IEC spoke on the occasion. Later students went on a walkathon from spreading environmental awareness.

Diwali Celebration
Headmistress, Teachers & Students of Shri Gujarathi English Medium school celebrated Deepavali in a unique way along with the inmates of “SHISHU NILAYA” of Bhagini Samaj. They donated new dresses from the amount collected on account of their Birth Day’s. They also taught Rangoli and to prepare lanterns and gave the things required to prepare. Few games were conducted and prizes were awarded to the inmates. A festival lunch was sponsored on the next day.
Farewell
“Attitude and gratitude keep a positive attitude towards life and be grateful to what you have” these were the key words of the chief guest Mrs Kavitha Shastry for the outgoing students of Std 10th. Students of std 9th organized a touching farewell programme to bid goode to outgoing students.
Co curricular activities
Along with the academic excellence, to lay emphasis on the overall development following co curricular activities were outlined
Exhibition
Art and craft Exhibition was organized to give opportunity to students to exhibit their talents through science experiments, models and craft work on 28-2-2018 .Chief guest Mr. Hithendra Kothari inaugurated the same.
Study Tour – To provide opportunities to students to get an experience of the outer world, educational trip was conducted in the month of December.

Staff Enrichment Programe:
All the teachers of 10th attended one day workshop conducted the department. Mrs. Soumya Shetty and Mrs. Saira attended the workshop organized oxford publishers.
Maths training programme was organised in our school in association with the department on 17th June 2018. Mrs.Manjula, Block Officer inaugurated the programme. Around 150 teachers of Mangalore North attended the same.
Apart from this teachers also attended in house training from Hippo campus and Next

Infrastructure:
To enable the students to get firsthand experience performing various experiments, the newly upgraded Science laboratory was inaugurated our president Mr. Hitendra Kothari on the occasion of PTA general body Meeting ‘. Dr. Supriya , professor from Father Mullers Hospital was the Chief guest on the occasion.
Utility Service
About 80 years ago, our ancestors visualized need of our association, to strengthen our religious, cultural, moral, ethical and social values. Our association is following the direction set them. Among the various activities conducted, the following need to be emphasized upon.

Matruchhaya Hall : Our prestigious hall is being utilized our members and other local citizen for various religious, social and cultural activities. The hall is fully equipped with all kinds of facilities.

Academic Encouragement : Since 20 years, we have been recognizing the achievement of our Students who have fared exceptionally well in the final examinations. Certificate of honour and silver medals were awarded to 210 students who acquired more than 80% in school exams and more than 75% in Board Exams. We hope that more and more students would excel in the field of education and other activities. “The Samajratna Sri Dr. V.V. ModyAward” was presented to Nikki Nigam Vasani, JayDivyesh Shah,Khushi Mehul Karia, Stuti Jaideep Patel, ChandHitheshAdhaduk and Om RohitKansagara for securing the highest percentage (10 grade points) of marks in S.S.L.C., CBSE Boards and Khyati K. Kaneriafor securing the highest percentage in theState Board Examination.
Rs 5001/- CASH AWARD TO THE SECOND TOPPER OF SSLC FROM our SAMAJ IN CBSE /ICSE / STATE BOARD SPONSERED BY SHRI SUSHILKUMAR MANGALDAS GORADIA FAMILY WAS AWARDED to Dev Kaneria & Raj D. Sinojia IN THE CBSE AND Prapti S. Bhutin THE STATE BOARD.

Dr. Jasumanthiben V. Modi Award & Sri Chandulal B. Bhatt (Guruji award)to the Topper in S.S.L.C. of Gujarati School & Shri Umiya Mataji Trust award ofRs 5000 was awarded to MASTER HASAN RAHIL for securing 97.60% the Highest score as on date.
Sri Jamnadas Nathala Vardhan Award of Rs. 5001/- to the 2nd PUC topper of our Samaj in the science stream was jointly awarded to PRACHI ALPESH PATEL for securing 96% & ADITYAJAYESH BHAI KARIA for securing 96.00%
Sri Manaldas Gangadas Goradia & Smt.Jiv Kunwarben Mangaldas Gorodia Memorial award of Rs. 5,001/- to the 2nd
PUC Topper of our Samaj in the commerce stream was awarded to BANSI A. KALARIA for securing 88.66%.
10 more members have been added to our Association as Life Members.

EDUCATIONAL AID

We are thankful to the following Donors who have generously donated towards the school fees of students, who hail from poor financial background.

We are also grateful to Parent Teacher Association who have generously donated Rs. 25,000/- towards the betterment of the School.
A total amount of Rs. 1,03,919/- has been provided to the needy students (Fees Concession) to students who have scored above 85% marks in VII, VIII and IX Standard examinations the interest accumulated in the Late Sri. Harikishandas Prabhudas Shethmemorial fund and Smt. Prafulaben Pravinchandra Chandarana fund has been utilized here.
LOSS OF MEMBERS
We deeply mourn the souls of deceased members on their sad demise and pray “May the almighty rest their souls in eternal peace”
Coming to the end of the report, we take the opportunity to thank all donors but for whom this institution would not have reached the present position. We are rest assured that this generosity will be show on all occasions.
Last but not the least, we thank all the Samaj members for their valuable support and co-operation for all the activities of our samaj during the year. We hope to get their continued support and co-operation in the years ahead in all respects.
